Description
Product Data Sheet
Sika® Aktivator-205 is a high-performance, solvent-based adhesion promoter engineered to improve adhesion between non-porous substrates and Sikaflex® or Sikasil® adhesives and sealants. This transparent surface treatment reacts with atmospheric moisture to deposit active bonding groups onto the substrate surface, helping create stronger, more durable adhesive and sealant bonds in demanding industrial and construction applications.
Designed for professional surface preparation, Sika® Aktivator-205 is commonly used on metals, plastics, ceramic screen prints, painted surfaces, glass, and other non-porous materials where enhanced adhesion and long-term bond durability are critical. Its fast flash-off time and simple wipe-on application process help improve efficiency in manufacturing, glazing, transportation, and industrial assembly operations.
Sika® Aktivator-205 is especially effective as a pretreatment step before applying Sikaflex® polyurethane adhesives and sealants or Sikasil® silicone products. The activator helps improve weather resistance and long-term bond performance while supporting reliable adhesion on difficult-to-bond substrates.
The product is applied using a clean, lint-free cloth or paper towel lightly moistened with the activator. Its transparent formulation leaves no visible residue and dries quickly, with a typical flash-off time of approximately 10 minutes depending on environmental conditions. Proper application helps ensure optimal adhesive curing and bond integrity.
Sika® Aktivator-205 is moisture-reactive and should be tightly resealed immediately after use to maintain performance. It is intended for use on non-porous substrates only and should not be applied to porous materials where incomplete drying could interfere with adhesive or sealant curing.
Common applications include:
- Surface preparation before applying Sikaflex® adhesives and sealants
- Glazing and curtainwall assembly
- Transportation and specialty vehicle manufacturing
- Metal and plastic bonding applications
- Industrial equipment assembly
- Window, door, and façade fabrication
- Adhesion improvement on painted and coated substrates
