Product Data Sheet
DOWSIL™ 982 Silicone Insulating Glass Sealant is a high-performance, two-part silicone sealant engineered for use as a secondary seal in dual-sealed insulating glass (IG) units and structurally glazed insulating glass systems. This high-modulus silicone formulation cures to form a durable, flexible, weather-tight seal that maintains long-term adhesion and performance in demanding architectural glazing applications.
Designed specifically for insulating glass fabrication, DOWSIL™ 982 delivers excellent primerless adhesion to glass and metal substrates including aluminum, galvanized steel, and coated spacer systems. The sealant is compatible with both traditional box spacers and thermoplastic spacer (TPS) systems, providing manufacturers with flexibility across a wide range of IG unit designs.
Once mixed at the proper base-to-curing-agent ratio, the sealant cures into a durable silicone rubber that resists UV exposure, moisture, temperature extremes, ozone, and long-term environmental aging. Its exceptional weatherability allows insulating glass units to maintain structural integrity and weather resistance even after years of exterior exposure.
DOWSIL™ 982 meets ASTM C1369 requirements for structurally glazed insulating glass units and supports ASTM E2190-compliant IG system fabrication when used with an appropriate primary sealant. Its non-sag consistency supports automated dispensing and glazing operations, helping improve production efficiency and consistency in manufacturing environments.
The two-part system is supplied with a white paste base and either black or gray curing agent options. The cure rate can be adjusted through mix ratio modifications, allowing manufacturers to optimize processing speed based on production conditions and environmental factors.
Common applications include:
- Secondary sealing of insulating glass units
- Structurally glazed insulating glass systems
- Commercial curtainwall fabrication
- High-performance window manufacturing
- Heat mirror and specialty glazing systems
- Dual-sealed IG units for commercial façades
- Automated insulating glass production lines
